I have a coin collection. I have been collecting old coins from all around the world. I have about 75 coins. I have coins from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, Cook Islands, France and Italy.
I have a coin that is 104 years old WOW!!!. I have another one that is from Australia that is 100 years old as well. I also have a coin that is 1 dollar that could buy you 300 lollies a long time ago. I have 5 notes that are old as well.
I have one from Fiji, that is 5 dollars, 2 from New Zealand, one is a 1 dollar note and the other is a 2 dollar note. I have 2 from Australia. One is a 2 dollar note and the other one is a 1 dollar note. My Dad has a 108 year old coin.

Is Leisure Time Important?

We've been learning about lots of different leisure time activities and we've been talking to lots of people about how they use their leisure time. We are now wondering Is leisure time important? What would life be like if it was all work and no play?

Bailey- Yes, so I can have fun by myself and with my family.
Molly - It's important because you would have to work all day and you'ld get tired. You get time off to pick your kids up from school, you can have time with your friends and go on holiday with your family. If you do leisure time activities you don't get bored doing work all day and they will make you feel happy.

Anais- Yes, it is important, so that we can have holidays and spent time with our family and with our friends. So if you worked all the time, you wouldn't have any time to spend your money or eat.
Cameron- Yes, because if they worked all the time they wouldn't be able to spend the money they had.
Todd- Maybe bad and maybe good. If you don't work you wont have any money for travelling to go places,and you wouldn't have any money for lunch. Good, if you didn't have any leisure time you wouldn't have any fun or any memories.
Melissa- It is important so that you can earn money and go on bus trips. So that you can play with your family and play fun games together. So that you can do something and not have a boring life.

Jonty- No, we need to make money for our family. We need to buy food and clothes. Leisure activities are good to make you feel happy and mums and dads and kids should do leisure activities so they be relaxed.

Blair's Leisure Time

Blair is learning to play the piano but his piano was too big to bring to school- so he borrowed Mrs Whittaker's keyboard to show us what he can do.

We were so impressed. Blair performed several tunes for us and one of them he knew off by heart! Blair thinks playing the piano is easy and that it is a fantastic leisure time activity.

Leisure Time in the Past

Meg's nana and Mr Smith came to talk to us about what leisure time was like in the past.
Mr Smith talked about when he was a young boy growing up in Palmerston North. He lived across the road from a school and he spent most of his leisure time playing over there. He used to play cricket on the road and when the traffic cop was coming all the kids would run and hide!They didn't have tv or play station or XBox in the olden days- AND they didn't have takeaways!
Mr Smith went into the army and they didn't get a lot of leisure time when he was a soldier. Sometimes there were concerts for the soldiers.
Meg's nana showed us 2 old toys that her son used to play with. There was a truck and a tractor. They were made of metal and they were quite heavy. They are over 50 years old now and they still haven't broken!

Bailey shares one of his Leisure Activities

YYesterday I brought my guitar to school to share as one of my favourite

leisure activities. I started playing the guitar when I was 7 in term 3 November 2009.

Now I'm 8 years old. and Im still not that good at the guitar but learning to play

the guitar takes a long time to learn how to do it.

I think the guitar is one of the worlds most popular instruments.

My guitar is a 3 quarter inch. If you think that is small it is bigger than you

think. It is about 75 cm.

It has 6 strings and you read the music upsidedown. Each string has a

letter name- the top one is E then A D G B and another E the only

difference is it is a high pitch and the other one is a low. I can do about 10 songs. Some of them are Supercalafragalisticexpialadoshious,Mary had a little lamb, Twinkle Twinkle little star, Jingle bells and the first song I learnt was called E ride.

There are chords on a guitar. The ones I know are called D D7 E minor C A7 and A.

My mum and dad say I can get a real electric guitar when I know how to do nearly everything

on a normal guitar. When I get a electric guitar my goal is to be able to do

Beat It on the eletcric guitar I have Beat it on CD for my big big big!!!!!!

stereos and I have Guitar Hero World Tour and I do Beat It on Guitar Hero as well.
I like it because I can sing Beat It and dance to it and because Michale Jackson made it

up and Michale Jackson is my favourite singer. When Michale Jackson was doing his

last big song he rehearsed a lot and a few days before his last song he

had a heart attack and he died. And now they have it in a movie.

He was world famous and the creepy thing about it was last year when he

died the Middle Team was learning how to dance to Thriller my brothers

favourite song by Michale Jackson.

Jacob and Mrs Hercock Share Their Leisure Time Activities

WOW! Mrs Hercock and Jacob are part of an amazing musical family. We learned that music can be fun and it's healthy for you too! Playing music helps people to relax. It is a creative leisure time activity and is really good to help you become more confident.

Mrs Hercock was 9 years old when her gran taught her to play the piano. She learned the saxophone when she was 14 and she played in a jazz band at her high school. She said she would never stop because music makes her feel really good inside. She loves playing music with her kids.

We think that Jacob is such a great singer as well as being clever at playing musical instruments. When we watched their DVD we thought Jacob sounded like Justin Beber.

Mrs Harpur Shares Her Leisure Time Activities With Us

Mrs Harpur was so kind to come along and share with us some of the things she really likes to do in her leisure time. We think she is a very creative and talented lady. The cards she makes are so beautiful and she makes them from all sorts of bits and pieces and some of them are recycled. She begins with a blank piece of card and sometimes she uses satmps that she colours in, or she draws animals. She also makes lovely jewellery and we really liked the necklace she was wearing that she had made herself!

Feilding Public Library Visit

We went and visited Jennie at the Feilding Public Library.She read more great stories to us. The most fun story was The Wonky Donkey. Jennie even played the song for us to sing along to.There was a special visitor too- it was a lady who was deaf and she signed the story as Jennie read it. She was SO SO clever. She even showed us how to sign our own names with sign language.
Our class is doing the Winter Warmers programme again this year. Jennie has delivered the books to our class now and we can't wait to get started!

Cameron's Favourite Leisure Activity

We were very lucky to have the Palmerston North Boys High Orchestra come to perform for us. There were so many boys with their wonderful instruments!

Mr and Mrs Gowan with Their Motorbike

Mr and Mrs Gowan bought their BMW motorbike to show our class. It was a greeny blue turquiose colour. When Mr Gowan was kid he learned how to ride a trike and then a motorbike. Mr Gowan takes Blair or Mrs Gowan for a ride. If he's lucky he goes for a ride once a month because he's got other stuff to do.

He turned his bike around and we went to have a good look at it. We saw the hot exhaust pipe and where you put your feet. It was special to the whole Gowan family.

The Worm

When the earth is turned in Spring

The worms are fat as anything.

The birds come flying all around

To eat the worms right off the ground.

They like the worms just as much as I

Like bread and milk and apple pie.

And once, when I was very young,

I put a worm right on my tongue.

I didn't like the taste a bit,

And so I didn't swallow it.

But oh, It makes my mother squirm

Because she thinks I ate that worm!

Envirokids Nature Walk at Uenuku Walkway

I went with the Envirokids and are pulling the weeds out of the cracks in the concrete at Uenuku Walkway. Some weeds didn't like us and some did like us. If they liked us we could pull them out. The concrete area looked real real clean when we had weeded it. I felt great that we were helping Feilding be clean. It's not a dirty town.Anais and Meg came too because they are Envirokids like me.

One day Anais bought her bird to tell us about it . She said the bird's name was Samuel. It was a wild bird. Anais said the bird was probably 23 years old. They got the bird when it flew on Annais' dad's shoulder. when Annais lets the bird out it always goes on her dad's shoulder and Samual sometimes cleans his ears as well. Samuel has a very high pitched voice. He is multi coloured with red,yellow,white and gray. When it is night he calms down alot.

WORMS WONDERFUL WORMS

We went searching for worms around our school. The best place to find them was in the vege gardens. There were heaps of little tunnels in the soil that the worms had made. We read in a worm book that these tunnels let air into the soil and that is good. It makles the soil healthy and crumbly so roots can grow down and spread around.

One of our favourite poems this term has been 'My Dog Goes Flying Through the Air'.
Here it is-

My cat goes flying through the air
from over here to over there.
He lands and runs right back, and then
goes flying through the air again.

I didn't used to see him fly,
like Superkitty, through the sky.
He used to only lie around
upon my bed or on the ground.

But now he's like an acrobat;
the coolest ever flying cat.
And how'd he get this great result?
He built himself a catapult.
